I assume you're baking them frozen so the outside of the ball is thawing first
and spreading out on the cookie sheet. By the time the center of the ball has
thawed and baked, the edges are overbaked.
Try flattening the balls before you freeze them Then the whole cookie will thaw
more evenly.
Or you could freeze them as balls, place them on the cookie sheet and allow to
thaw before baking them.

Anyone have tips for freezing balls of choc chip dough to bake later? Mine dont
seem to spread as far and as a result are harder and not as crispy at the
edges. I am looking for a cookie that is chewy at the middle and crispy at the
edges......An impossible dream? LOL
