Do whatever works best for you. If you freeze in the original container, open
it first and use about a cup of the milk. Then place it in the freezer with the
lid on loosely to allow for expansion as it freezes. Tighten the lid when it is
frozen solid. A gallon will take a while to thaw so remove it from your freezer
at least a couple days before you want to use it. It may separate when it
freezes so give it some vigorous shaking before using.
In June my grocery store had half gallons on sale for 99 cents each. I checked
and, sure enough, the 'best used by date' was that day. I know that milk is
good for about a week after that date so I took home as many as I knew I had
room for in the freezer. I had enough milk for over 2 months.

How do you freeze milk? Do you have to do it in the container it comes in or
can you do it in small batches?
