I never boiled it and I had ok success with it. I just mixed it well and then let it sit for a bit to soften up the flax.

I completely forgot about the flax goo, as some call it. I have never tried it since our egg free time was short, but I have also heard good things about it. Don't you have to boil the flax and water for a bit and then cool it so it is like a thin glue consistency?
So I just took a bit to look back through my allergy free info and I printed out a page from Bobs Red Mill bobsredmill.com for egg repalcers. It has the directions for making the flax goo and suggestions for the different egg subs uses. Might be worth checking out. My printed copy was from 2007 so hopefull the info is still on their web site.
