I don't know if my old pressure cooker had directions for rice, but I have a newer non-stick pressure cooker that I just recently learned had directions for rice. I've made brown rice in it 3 times now, using the whole bag of rice (don't remember proportions), so I could divide it up & freeze it. There was nothing in the directions about putting it in a bowl in the cooker, just told me to rinse the rice well before cooking it.
