Actually, I store most of my potatoes in the freezer. When I find a good sale,
I buy a lot. Then I get busy and prep them for the freezer. You can't freeze
raw potatoes so I make them into a number of dishes that we frequently eat and
freeze them that way. Here's a link to my potato plan so you can see how I go
about it. It should be relatively easy to plug your favorite potato dishes into
the plan. I do keep a few fresh potatoes in my pantry, usually 5# or less.

You're right that basements don't usually provide good storage conditions for
root vegetables. The temperature isn't as much of a problem for me as the
humidity.

Hi! I don't have a true "cellar" in my basement to store vegetables like
potatoes, but I wish I did. I live in a colder climate (Minnesota) so our
basement is cooler like about 62-65 degrees. I tried to store my potatoes in a
bin in a cupboard down there, and a couple of them have already kinda rotted.
I can store them in the fridge, but then if I buy a big bag, I run out of room,
and don't have an extra fridge.
Any ideas how else I can store my potatoes so they will last? Sorry, this isn't
a direct "Freezer cooking" question, but you can bet those spuds go into the
meals that go into the freezer!
