Anna Hazare, a social activist heading an anti-corruption movement, initiated a fast unto death from August 16. He is fasting to protest for a stronger Jan-Lok Pal Bill than the one already introduced by the ruling Government in the Parliament. He was arrested in New Delhi at IST 0730 today has been sent to seven days judicial custody in New Delhi's Tihar Jail. He continues to be on fast in the jail.As many as 2500 of Anna's supporters courted arrest all over India as part of the Jail Bharo Andolan (fill jails in protest – a protest mean used in India). The core team members of Anna Hazare were also arrested including Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi, Shanti Bhushan and Manish Sisodia. Following Anna's arrest, the opposition parties protested in the parliament which led to the adjournment of the parliamentary sessions in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today. Nationwide protests, rallies and fasts are being conducted to support Anna's cause against corruption and to secure his release. The popular support for Anna Hazare is on the rise and the all the opposition parties are planning to come together to challenge the ruling UPA government. The situation is further likely to aggravate if the UPA government does not bring any interim measures to resolve the situation.

Possible Impact
Overall situation across country can be considered as volatile and dynamic, as all major political parties are now involved either in support of or against the movement. Since the large percentage of protestors are youth the possibility of violence cannot be ruled out.
