Freezing chopped raw onions would be a good reason for using the "double wrap" trick.
Put the onions in a small zip bag in portions you most likely will use (1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, etc.), seal
really well, then put your small bags of onions in a larger freezer weight zip bag and seal that well
also. I've found that frozen bags of onions can release their odor while frozen.
