Ahh, I went to a church like that in the 80s. They had families that signed up to cook evening for everyone. Pastor would announce who was cooking in Sunday am and I sure think that brought out a full house on taco night and Spanish rice night and meatball sub night, even grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup, chili was a hit too. Baked beans and ham or scalloped potatoes and ham.
When it was my turn I brought my 3 nesco cookers and either made lasagna or a hamb, cabbage, rice, and tomato casserole. I remember money was really tight for me one time and made scrambled eggs and toast.
Syrup seemed to always make a mess on walls, carpet, tables and places I always wondered how syrup could get to so we stopped anything sticky like that.
We always kept peanut butter on hand and a loaf of bread in freezer in case someone didn't like dinner.
Looking back now those were some wonderful times cooking together and learning how each family made things.
I could write a novel so write again if you want more info. We always tried to give at least one meal of leftovers to someone sick or with a new baby and tried to keep one meal frozen in church to give out.

Anyone have experience with planning Wed night church meals?? I can think of some easier things to do on a larger scale (tacos, spaghetti, BBQ) but get nervous about the logistics of making larger amounts of ham, meatloaf, etc. I've not looked at the new building's kitchen so I don't know how many ovens, burners, and all we'll have yet to work with. I'm estimating we will have from 100-150 people at most, but who knows?? We were having 55-65 kids on Wednesdays, plus some of the workers would come eat some if there was plenty.
Any advice?
