But lots of time I forget and am not that well organized. I have lots of good stored meat in my freezer right now but then I can't use when I want to try a new recipe. I end up having to run to the store to buy a package of meat to cook with. It gets frustrating!
Depends on the cut somewhat. With ground beef, I just cook it direct from frozen, constantly turning it and scraping off the cooked surface of the block as I go. With whole chickens or a whole roast of some other kind, I would probably not try to cook it from frozen. For everything in between, I defrost in the microwave. I believe cold water can be used to accelerate the defrosting process for large cuts, but I've never done that myself and I don't think it would work on the same day.
