I use containers that are not taller then they are wide. Reason is this: Spreading out the meal as much as possible in the container so that reheating time won't be too long which can make the food gross.
I also keep my containers to just 2 sizes that stack well together. This way, it is easier to fill the freezer and utilize the space as efficiently as possible. Also, keeping to 2 sizes meant that reheating times were very consistent. We found that with the smaller of the two sizes, reheating took 1 - 3 minutes and the larger size took 2 - 4 minutes. This meant that there was no need to find a way to label all of the meals with heating instructions. We simply started with the shortest time possible and added more time in 30 second intervals as needed.
