Hi!
I just started using Living Cookbook. It totally rocks. However...if you are not data base savvy it's going to take some time to learn it.
BUT once you learn it, you'll wonder how you lived without it. I bought mine 3 years ago and got so frustrated trying to figure it out I tossed it in the drawer.
Now that I've taken a couple weeks to learn it, I love it. I also LOVE the inventory feature. I found things in my cabinet I didn't know I had. So I don't double buy anything any more. I never used to use coupons because I didn't know the price I was already paying for items. Now I look through all the coupons that come in the mail because I can open my software and see exactly how much I paid the last time I bought the item. This software is a real money saver for me.
It has about 100 different things you can do. Whoever built the software seems to have thought of everything. Not only do I now know what I have in my cabinets and freezers, I know exactly where everything is.
The grocery shopping feature is great too as you can set your own isles and it will add up your list so you know about how much money you'll be spending before you hit the store. I can also see calorie count for each dish I make.
They also have a support forum which is extremely handy.
You can use it just for recipe writing, but it can get frustrating and confusing if you don't learn about the entire program. In other words, it's best to start out by NOT entering recipes, but entering your inventory and cleaning up the vast amount of ingredients that come already loaded on the software.
Not only does it capture recipes but it also captures ingredients. Both features are quick and easy.
Frankly, I would get both. The best review I saw from a woman on a forum was the features of both and why having both softwares is the best of all worlds. Living cookbook doesn't come with very many recipes installed. Apparently Mastercook does.
If you do get Living Cookbook, don't expect to learn it over night. The program seems quirky because it's a massive data base and is extremely particular how you enter data--as it should be.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have started by entering my inventory first. Only because it's the easiest way to learn how to use it.
Hope this helps.
