Hi there. About three months ago, I was asking myself the same question. (I wanted a better way to cook beans, too.) I finally decided that my mom's stovetop pressure cooker is still going strong after 35 years. There isn't much to go wrong. I seriously doubt you could say the same about an electric model.
So, I chose to keep my eyes open for a good deal on a traditional model. A few weeks ago I found one at Sam's Club for $23.00. Works great and my beans are awesome. I've even frozen some after cooking them so they are easy to add to soups, etc.
Just one thing...if you have a glass stovetop you should check with the manufacturer to see if a pressure cooker can be used safely on it. (In this case, I'd probably go with an electric one.)
